A little history…
Libeco linen is woven in Belgium, where every metre of fabric is inspected and, where necessary, corrected by hand. Their products are crafted with the greatest care — both for the finished piece and for the environment. Linen is one of the most eco-friendly fibres in the world, and at Libeco, sustainable practice has always been a core value. In recent years, significant progress has been made with the company's certification as a carbon-neutral business and the launch of a 100% organic linen collection. A sustainable approach for a viable future — that is their vision.
Libeco's story began in 1858 in Flanders, at a time when weaving was still carried out on hand looms by farmers, providing them with a supplementary income during the harsh winter months when the ground was too frozen to till. Once woven, the fabrics were transported by horse-drawn cart to Kortrijk — then the very heart of the linen industry. Libeert & Compagnie had its offices and warehouses directly opposite the railway station, and the linen was sold to traders who travelled from every corner of the globe in search of the coveted Flemish cloth.
Today, the fifth generation of the Libeert family leads the company. Together with their 200 dedicated colleagues, they continue to weave their story.
