A little history...
Libeco linen is woven in Belgium, where each metre of fabric is inspected by hand and corrected where necessary. Their products are made with the utmost care — for the craft itself, and for the environment. Linen is one of the most sustainable fibres in the world, and at Libeco, responsible practice has always been a founding value. In recent years, significant progress has been made: the company is now certified carbon neutral and has launched a 100% organic linen collection. A sustainable approach for a viable future — that is their vision.
The story of Libeco begins in 1858 in Flanders, at a time when weaving was still carried out on hand looms by farmers seeking additional income during the harsh winter months when the ground was too frozen to cultivate. The finished cloths were loaded onto horse-drawn carts and transported to Kortrijk — the very heart of the linen industry. Libeert & Compagnie maintained its offices and warehouses opposite the railway station, selling to merchants who travelled from every corner of the globe in search of prized Flemish linen.
Today, the fifth generation of the Libeert family leads the company. Together with their 200 colleagues, they continue to weave their remarkable story.
